"I'm glad that they are alright."
Turning to face his friend for a moment, James smiled warmly. "Me too." he said in a sincere, almost relieved sounding voice. It was hard to lose his father, but James knew he'd fall apart if he'd lost his mother and sister too. He was determined, however, to find strength in his father's memory and perhaps use his heroics to his advantage. James was now, more than ever, determined to somehow figure out what or who was out there causing all this chaos. Sure before it had been frightening and mysterious, but the events were given new meaning when it was his own father that had fallen victim. He was contemplating asking Sirius to accompany him back home this weekend, just to check things out. He knew that of course his friend would wholeheartedly agree, they could disappear for a weekend and make Moony cover up for them or something. He'd have to figure things out a bit and ask him about it later.
"Don't worry Prongs."
James chuckled and gave his friend a nudge in the side. "If you get too depressed, Paddy," he teased, the old glint returning to his hazel eyes. "I'm sure Moony would oblige and cook you some muffins." he snorted, amused. "Probably not as good as Mum's, but he'd enjoy wearing an apron and lecturing us on the tactics of cooking properly you see." James laughed lightly, entertaining silly images of Remus with a batch of muffins and an oven mitt, chastising him and Sirius for making him do such a ridiculous thing, and how it was against the rules to be in the kitchens, blah blah blah, in his head. "And then he'd want to sew mittens for the house elves and ask them if pretty please would they help us, if it isn't too much trouble."
Somehow, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, and James Potter had managed to form a tight, inseparable bond. James and Sirius were obvious candidates for an infamous friendship, but Remus was rather the opposite. Though he rarely admitted it, he was grateful to have Remus as a friend; not only did he keep them in line and save their skins at least twice a week, he was a good, loyal friend and awesome study companion. Stretching his arms up over his head, James yawned hugely and rumpled his hair a bit. He wanted things to return to normal for the time being, so he was casually reintroducing humor and casualness back into the conversation and it seemed to be working.
His mind drifted back to Lily Evans, and Quidditch. Hm, two of his most favorite things. Sure the cauldron thing might work, but what else was there he could do...? Suddenly, it dawned on him and he stood up abruptly, whirling around to face Sirius with a wide, goofy smile on his face. "Padfoot, I've got it!" he exclaimed, grabbing onto Sirius' shoulders and looking rather pleased with himself. "Tomorrow's match, I want you to hit me with a Bludger!"
Not realizing, of course, how much of an idiot he sounded at that point. Inhaling the smoke, since he was in a much closer proximity to his friend now, he turned his head and hacked a bit before regaining his composure and his rather pleased look, still holding onto Sirius' shoulders and waiting for his reaction.

As quickly as it had been lost, it had returned, James seemed his old cheery self again as he started discussing the proposition with Sirius of having Mooney make them a new batch of muffins. Sirius begun to laugh at the image, exhaling smoke through his nose and practically dropping his cigarette which was now beginning to burn lower. He could see Mooney perfectly clad in a pink frilly apron trying to cook them all muffins after hours while constantly checking his back to make sure that they wouldn't get caught or that they hadn't been followed. Sirius was practically roaring with laughter now at the images that James was throwing at him, it was a wonder how James could keep a straight face while talking about such things. It was widely known that he and James got a kick out of almost anything, no matter how cruel or ghastly Mooney or the congregation of girls at Hogwarts found it. Than of course Peter would be following suit the whole time too make it look as if it were another normal thing that any sane person should be laughing at.
Sirius was practically gasping for breath now as James had finally finished his long rant about Mooney making them all muffins. "We need to get him to do that." Sirius gasped, very short of breath from having laughed so hard. The extreme show of laughter might have been his relief that the tension had now vanished, and that the rest of James's family was now safe. It was a relief that would hopefully be long lived, that maybe he could shelter for the next week or two to allow him to get away from anything that might've been bothering him at the moment. It felt strangely like old times again, now that James had been bringing humor back into the conversation, the seriousness of the older dicussion had disappeared completely now. It was all back to fun and games, something Sirius was more familiar with now.
Suddenly Prongs was his old self again, plotting, planning, and scheming, or at least that's what Sirius assumed that he was doing judging by the look on his face now. [i'Padfoot, I've got!'[/i] Sirius mentally sighed, but outwardly grinned in a doggish manner, Here we go again with Prongs's master plan. "Win Evans heart try number 769." Sirius replied teasingly with a smirk on his face as he waited for James's plan to be disclosed to him. Sirius shook back and forth in James's grasp for a moment as he clung to his shoulders, there was a bit of a bewildered look on his face. "You want me to what?" Sirius nearly shouted in surprise, he dropped his cigarette into the sink that he was still perched on. Sure James had had some really crackpot ideas in the past, but this really took the cake. "I'm sure that Evans is a sucker for every guy with a broken nose, but Prongs that's like suicide!" Sirius responded, his tone held something of a serious nature to it, "Although I don't like jumping to conclusions, so what happens after I hit you?" Sirius added in a conversational tone with the same smirk on his face.

"We need to get him to do that."
James grinned widely as his friend laughed, and felt any remaining tension that was still there leave in that instant. Laughter really was the best medicine, and if anyone had an abundance of it, it was Sirius and James. Chuckling to himself, mostly amused by his friend's racous laughter, James pushed his hand quickly through his hair, now it was really sticking up, even more so than before. "Of course we'd have to not tell Peter." he added with a grin as an afterthought. "Because then he would want to bake too, and then he'd try to one up Moony just to impress us." he flased Sirius a wry grin. Peter was always making an annoyance of himself in one way or another.
"Win Evans heart try number 769."
James made a face at Sirius, but was still feeling rather pleased with himself. "768, get it right, Pads." he teased with a smirk. James Potter was renound for his efforts of trying to win Lily Evans, though honestly it wasn't looking toog ood. What had he ever done to her to make her say no? Besides being arrogant, pulling pranks, practically telling her what to do... Maybe that was it. Giving a mental shrug, James let his mind drift away from his several failed attempts and lost tries and towards his new idea. It was fool proof, or so it seemed to him.
"You want me to what? I'm sure that Evans is a sucker for every guy with a broken nose, but Prongs that's like suicide! Although I don't like jumping to conclusions, so what happens after I hit you?"
James gave a wide grin and released Sirius, taking a few steps backward, intending on letting him know exactly what he was planning. Standing in the middle of the bathroom now, James stuck out his chest proudly and tossed his hair. "I'm Sirius Black, everyone loves me, but not as much as my amazing best friend James Potter." Passing his friend a smirk, he mimed hitting the Bludger rather hard with the bat the beaters used. Stepping to the side a bit, James stepped into his own shoes, persay, and acted as though he'd been hit int he stomach. Giving a dramatic fall, he sprawled out on his back, laying there for a few moments before jumping up once again and batting his eyelashes at Sirius. "Oh, no!" he cried in an extremely badly imitation of Lily's voice. "Oh, James, my love, don't die! I'll save you, I know CPR." James gave a deep bow and wicked grin. "See, it's fool proof."

Sirius nodded in agreement with James's comment, "He'd set the castle on fire with everything in it just to bake us a batch of muffins. I doubt that'd sit well with McGonagall, she needs a better sense of humor, everyone knows that if we ever let Peter near a stove it will be to push him inside of it." There was amusement flashing his grey eyes as he imagined the equally ridiculous scene that he had just spoken of. Peter would definitely burn the castle down if they let him near cookingware, Sirius stowed the thought away for later use, maybe they could use Peter's nimble cooking skills to fry up some Snivellius. But than again the git was so greasy that someone would definitely get burned, and the smell of charred Slytherin would seem awful. Oh well.
"Sorry Prongs, win Evans heart take 768." Sirius chuckled lightly, here came the very bunched up crazy scheme that he had been premediating [sp] since James had entered the room. Like usual Sirius took much amusement and delight in hearing all James's efforts of trying to win Evans heart. More likely than not each effort failed miserably usually resulting in a very large bloody mess or in Lily's claims that she utterly detested James Potter and that his existance was fueled by the large ego that he possessed - and than some. Sirius had seen scheme after scheme go up in smoke, and he usually loved watching it happen, even though he knew that his friend probably didn't like being shot down it was always back to the drawing board within five minutes of the last scheme blowing to pieces. And now here James was, talking as if they hadn't been discussing his father's death moments before, he was planning on going after Evans again. It was something of a relief to Sirius, he knew that James was strong and that he was lucky to have him as a best friend because that meant that they could get through most anything together.
Sirius's grey eyes focused on his best friend as he walked over to the middle of the bathroom to play out the performance that he had obviously been scheming in his head. Laughter escaped from Sirius's throat as he wore a look of skepticism watching James play him, "You're off a little on the last part about James, but other than that, you got my character down pat." Sirius retorted grey eyes glinting with laughter. "Foolproof until Evans get pushed aside by McGonagall or Promfrey, or maybe some puny first year girl who thinks that she can help." Sirius teased with a grin. Perhaps it was a good idea, maybe Evans would finally see the light when James was in such peril that he would be on the point of passing out from physical injuries. "I'll do it!" Sirius replied with a doggish grin. "That is as long as you can get up right afterwards so we can win the game." There was a certainty in Sirius's tone as if there wasn't a question in the world that Gryffindor would win the Quidditch game tomorrow. It would be a little hard to hit Jame with a bludger, but since they were planning it they could practice beside Sirius had decent enough aim. "This is definitely your best plan yet Prongs." He added as an afterthought, it was definitely one of the crazier ones that was for sure.
Hopefully no one would notice Sirius aiming for James while the game was in session, that might bring on suspicion. But that was something that could be avoided, especially if they went up high enough out of sight of the teachers and the students.

"He'd set the castle on fire with everything in it just to bake us a batch of muffins. I doubt that'd sit well with McGonagall, she needs a better sense of humor, everyone knows that if we ever let Peter near a stove it will be to push him inside of it."
James chuckled lightly, his mind drifting to McGonagall. She'd always seemed to have it out for him and Sirius. Maybe it was because she was head of their house and felt more responsible when they caused trouble, or maybe it was because she had some strange yelling fetish and needed to let off some steam on two innocent, handsome, charming teenage boys. The latter was it, of course. "She needs to get laid." he muttered with a small grin on his face. "Maybe Snivellus would oblige, he seems to be just as unlucky as her in that department." he said with a laugh, his hazel eyes sparked with amusement. "Though she might drown in grease."
"You're off a little on the last part about James, but other than that, you got my character down pat."
James grinned and waved one hand in the air nonchalantly. "Psh, of course I do." he boasted with amusement in his voice. "I happen to know you inside and out, Sirius Black. How could I not after you've made yourself incredibly annoying yet useful for the past almost six years." he chuckled lightly, giving an amused grin. He was kidding about the latter, of course. Sirius was everything but annoying; well, at least not to James. Though it was often said that James and Sirius together were extremely annoying, but neither of them thought so.
"Foolproof until Evans get pushed aside by McGonagall or Promfrey, or maybe some puny first year girl who thinks that she can help."
James winced briefly, he hadn't thought of that. For some reason, in his mind, only Lily, himself and Sirius would be present at the match that day, therefore guaranteeing that the redhead would have to administer mouth-to-mouth to the "injured" James Potter. But knowing her, if it didn't work, she'd probably leave and tell Sirius to do it. Which in that case, James would jump up and be miraculously cured. Looking as though he'd just walked out of the potions classroom after failing another test, James spoke up. "Which is why I will then suddenly be cured and jump back on my broom and grab the snitch." he grinned.
"I'll do it! That is as long as you can get up right afterward so we can win the game. This is definitely your best plan yet Prongs."
A wide smile plastered on James' features, he approached Sirius and clapped him on the shoulder. "I knew I could count on you, Snuffly old pal." he said with a light chuckle. "This is foolproof! As long as you don't miss - which you won't, with your aim - and I don't die." He blinked after a moment and regarded Sirius with a quirked eyebrow. "Don't use this as an opportunity to displace your fearless leader." he said, with a smirk twitching at the corners of his lips.

Sirius cringed a little at his friend's proposition although it was a humorous one, "I doubt that McGonagall would want to touch him much either. I saw her in class the other day trying to avoid getting near him." There was a glint in his eyes as he remembered the situation, he had been sitting in the back as always and McGonagall happened to be questioned by Snivellius about something and she seemed to avoid touching him in such a close range. "I think it's true, he does have cooties." Sirius had attested to this fact their first year when he had decided that the girls had tagged them all as something to avoid because of the way Snape was - he was the main carrier of the cootie disorder. He laughed a little in spite of the situation, it was quite obvious that this disease had become extinct when their third year rolled around because that was when all the girls started coming in their direction. Than of course their fanbase had started to bloom and everything begun to happen.
"Annoying? You're definitely the obnoxious one of the gang, even Mooney agrees with me that you got one over on Wormtail." Sirius replied with a stifled laugh that escaped his lips after he had made this comment. Although this was an insult that had the potential of rivalling James's it was all in good nature, and more plotting would soon follow this fun as they got all the kinks worked out of James's latest 'win Evan's heart' plan.
Sirius could only watch as James fixed up the patches in his plan, laughing a little at the ridiculousness that the situation would bring on if he were 'suddenly' better. "Prongs they might just get a little suspicious, especially if they see me hitting you with the bludger. So, we have to make it look like an accident!" Sirius replied suddenly, but how could they manage that when a thousand pairs of eyes would be looking in their direction. "We need to get someone else in on this, or at least ask them to fly past me to to look as if they are distracting me and than I accidently pin you in the face...uhh, I mean stomach, yes that's right the stomach with a bludger." There was a smirk now appearing on Sirius's face, of course James couldn't know that he was plotting mutiny for the day and a half that James would be out after having been hit by the bludger -- just kidding.
"I'm not going to miss!" Sirius retorted, his voice sounded overly confident and sure. He never missed, not a day in his life except those which he had regressed mentally. There was a grin on his face again as James seemed to be happy with the plan, but than he mentioned something about mutiny. "All my plans are ruined now." His voice sounded of mock disappointment although there was a grin still plastered on his face. "Everyone knows Prongs that I am the fearless leader, you're just for show because if everyone knew it was me than they'd all be out to get me, that sort of thing you know." Sirius patted his friend on the back consolingly as if he had just lost his cat, there was laughter in his grey eyes as he teased James.

"I doubt that McGonagall would want to touch him much either. I saw her in class the other day trying to avoid getting near him. I think it's true, he does have cooties."
James laughed loudly at this. He hadn't noticed, maybe it was because he was asleep. Usually it was either him or Sirius that dozed off in class, and sometimes both of them. But usually one stayed awake to kinda pay attention and look for ample prank opportunities; such as throwing paper wads at Snivellus or summoning Remus's notes. James grinned widely at this, hell hath no fury like a note-less Moony. "He's got something alright." he mused. "All that grease has gotta come from somewhere."
"Annoying? You're definitely the obnoxious one of the gang, even Mooney agrees with me that you got one over on Wormtail."
James visibly shuddered, doing his best to suppress a wide grin. "That was low." he said with a slight shake of his head. "You know I'm not arrogant. You're just jealous of my good looks, charming disposition and magnetic personality." Effectively proving himself wrong, of course. His mind drifted then to the Marauders. It was easy to tell that James and Sirius were thicker then thieves, and Remus came extremely close in the running. Peter was a good friend of theirs, yes, but there just seemed to be some weird tension in the air with him. Sometimes, James thought he was more of a stalker or a worshiper than a friend, really. It was nice to just be with Sirius and/or Remus every once in a while.
"Prongs they might just get a little suspicious, especially if they see me hitting you with the bludger. So, we have to make it look like an accident! We need to get someone else in on this, or at least ask them to fly past me to to look as if they are distracting me and than I accidently pin you in the face...uhh, I mean stomach, yes that's right the stomach with a bludger."
James laughed and punched Sirius lightly in the shoulder. "Right, you're going to use this as an attempt to screw up my good looks, aren't you?" he jibed with a grin. "Once I look like a troll, then you'll get all the attention instead of me." he chuckled jokingly and put his arm around Sirius's shoulders, in mock sympathy. "It's okay, Padfoot, you don't have to put me out of job to get the girls. I'll put in a good word for ya." he grinned.
"I'm not going to miss! All my plans are ruined now. Everyone knows Prongs that I am the fearless leader, you're just for show because if everyone knew it was me than they'd all be out to get me, that sort of thing you know."
Letting his arm fall stupidly off of his friend, James shook his head in mock hurt. "I- I had no idea." he said softly, not looking Sirius in the eye, for fear of bursting into laughter. "And here all this time I thought you worshiped me, Black. Oh well, I suppose now I'll just have to run off and live with Evans." He couldn't help but let a chuckle pass his lips, though he didn't avert his eyes back to Sirius.

"I believe it's some sort of rare disorder, he's a carrier for sure." Sirius snickered at the thought, he and James always had a good laugh over such things concerning Snape. Sirius leaned back a bit on his perch, there was laughter in his grey eyes now as the misty smoke in the bathroom had long cleared out.
"I know I'm good." There was a grin on Sirius's face now that he knew that he gotten James back. "Of course not Prongs, you're the most selfless person I've ever known in my entire life." Sirius responded in a generous tone that seemed to hold a hint of sarcasim in it. He was about to jokingly compare James's generousity to that of his own father but than decided not to, knowing that his best friend and his father were in no way similar. His father had been a greedy person from birth and had only worsened in the years afterwards, he'd been told stories of his younger days by other relatives that were ancient and decrepit now. Sirius had never liked his father, his quite manner had always hinted at something, something that was far to strange for someone not to grow suspicious of him. Than there was his overly quiet manner, and the greedy look that often times appeared in his eyes and his expression whenever the luxeries of living were concerned. Sirius hated everything about him, especially the fact that he resembled his father in many more ways than he had resembled his mother [he hated resembling both of them in any manner, but of course he didn't have an option], he bore his father's dark hair and grey eyes. It was a strange thing to think about, especially whenever he had looked at his father these days those same grey eyes often held a sort of murderous intent for him. It was like staring at yourself in a mirror, but only a portion of yourself and not the whole picture.
Sirius was laughing now at James's ridiculous proposition of him putting in a good word for Sirius with the girls. "Well if you do that than I'll have to put in a good word for you with Evans." Sirius teased with a smirk, he was friends with Lily but most of the time she'd probably rather see him dead due to the trouble that he gave her -- she was a perfect after all and Sirius was known for his messes. "Oh well, look at that, than the command of our fearless group of cronies will fall to me. What chance!" Sirius replied in a sarcastic manner when James mentioned that he would run with Lily while Sirius raged mutiny on the marauders.

"Of course not Prongs, you're the most selfless person I've ever known in my entire life."
In an attempt to prove himself wrong furthur and therefore keep up the entertainment, James bumped Sirius's shoulder with his own lightly. "Why thank you, lesser best friend Padfoot." he jibed with a grin and a snicker.
"Well if you do that than I'll have to put in a good word for you with Evans."
Rolling his eyes a bit, James hopped off of the sink and passed Sirius a wry grin. "Not just a word, probably the whole dictionary." he quipped with a light laugh, it was true. Half the time Miss Evans wouldn't give him the time of day... well... that was before. Now, guilt thudded in his chest as he thought of that night... How could he keep such a thing from the Marauders, especially Sirius. But when he imagined the look on his face when he found out through his and Lily's mastermind plan... he suddenly felt better. Yes, Lily Evans had finally admitted she'd fallen for the lovestruck stag, and no, he hadn't told anyone. And neither had she.
"Oh well, look at that, than the command of our fearless group of cronies will fall to me. What chance!"
Stepping forward to punch Sirius playfully in the shoulder, James grinned and pushed his glasses a bit farther up on his nose. "Ah, so you admit I am the fearless leader." he said with a slight smirk, but moved out of the way before Sirius could grab him and hit him. "See, Paddy, the leadership automatically attatches itself to the handsomest, best Quidditch player of the group." he stated with a mock serious tone in his voice. Then a grin broke over his face and he motioned to his head. "And plus the antlers come in handy, you see."
