By the look of James, his little comparison had give him the point. Though Remus hoped it never happened, to neither of them, James or Ripley. None of them deserved it, and Lily couldn't see through his wall of pride to see his good intentions. Whoever said laughter was the best medicine wasn't kidding, and humor was used to lighten up the day or avoid difficult situations or hide what you were really feeling.
James had a point a very good point, something that he wanted to avoid, but in the end he knew that she would suffer a little, everybody did in these situations. "What do you mean, what I want right now?" As in a girlfriend? Well he never had actively pursued the prospect, but he thought it would be nice to have one. And if it turned out to appear one day, then great.

"What do you mean, what I want right now?"
James gave a small shrug and a sip of his Firewhiskey. it was true Remus was anive in the ways of love, every guy had been at one point. In many ways, James and Sirius themselves still had a lot to learn. All four of the Marauders were at different stages in their love lives, Peter's seeming to be at a standstill.
Snorting a bit at his own inward joke, James quickly sombered again and looked at his friend with seriousness floating in his eyes. "Well, Remus, it all depends if you want her, or anyone for that matter, to be your girlfriend. If you're ready, that's great, if you're not it spells disaster. Trust me. You can't rush these things. Ask her to give you time, I'm sure she'll oblige."

Remus hated not knowing what was going on, becuase he usually knew pretty much all he needed to know. Hence the smart one of the group. But this was just so foreign, like a new language or new class. It was frustrating him a little, well at least things weren't stagnating anymore for his love life. There was somethig to look forward too.
"Well I woudln't mind having a girlfriend, and she's pretty patient with this whole thing." He said taking another sip. "But I don't know if I like her or not..." If only there was a way to have somethign surely tell you that you had feelings of some sort. Make life easier.

James halfway frowned - not enough to make him look deeply upset, but enough to prevent a smile from popping up unexpecedtly. "She sure seems to like you." he mused, swirling the drink around int he glass. His brow was furrowed slightly; how could he furthur help his friend. He knew how he felt about Lily, whenever she walked into the room it lit up and...
Suddenly, he had it. Seeting down his drink he turned to Remus with a triumphant smile. "Tell me this - does the room light up when she walks in?" he asked, hope wafting in his hazel eyes.

Remus rolled his eyes. "Obviously or I wouldn't be having this issue." He replied, putting the bottle back down on the bar with a light noise. There just wasn't a way to figure out how these things went, but she was just occupying his mind constantly that it was just odd, and a nuisance at times. Then James spoke again, though this time a smile on his face.
His question made him think, well when she showed up it made him smile did that count? "Umm....I don't know, but she always makes me happy, as in when i'm feeling like crap, she helps a lot." As if that made any sense. Even if he felt the worse, like after the full moon she could make him crack a smile and laugh his heart out. She just made him feel better when he needed it, or was that just being a friend?

"Umm....I don't know, but she always makes me happy, as in when i'm feeling like crap, she helps a lot."
James smiled almost faltered when Remus hesitated, but after he spoke a small smile lifted the corners of his lips. "Well that's a start." he said honestly, giving a nod of encouragement. He kenw that even thinking of Lily made him smile, even though they usually fought or subtly insulted each other. "And you don't want her to get hurt, right? That must count for something." Ripley and Remus were both dear friends of his, and he didn't want to see either of them hurt.
Suddenly, a wave of guilt passed through him and he averted his eyes. He felt horrible for not telling Remus yet about his father's death. Remus was confiding in him, and here James was keeping a secret. Giving a sigh and taking a long drink, he slowly, timidly raised his eyes to Lupin's.
"Moony, don't be mad, I... I have to tell you something that I should've told you before."

Remus just thought for a second, okay so that was a start. That should be a good sign, and still he didn't know how to react. Now that he thought about it, she just had this knack for brightening up his day. But was that the same thing? "Well, is it like she just brightens up my day when she shows up? Is that the same thing?" It was a miracle, there was something that Remus didn't know and he was asking James the question.
Remus put down his drink slowly so he wouldn't spit it out if the news was that bad. "You know I won't be mad, what is it?" He asked, keeping a serious tone to match his. This must be serious, and if he was joking, well then he made a joke. But James had his serious moments too.

"Well, is it like she just brightens up my day when she shows up? Is that the same thing?"
James considered this briefly, before giving Remus a genuinely stumped look. "I don't know, mate." he confessed honestly. 'I actually don't know, what a surprise.' he thought dryly. "I mean, that's what friends do, right?" At least, that's how he felt about his friends. He had no idea if Remus felt the same.
"You know I won't be mad, what is it?"
Guiltly, James averted his hazel eyes and gave a deep sigh, pushing his hands through his hair in an attempt to calm himself down a bit and nonverbally vent the frustration. James stared hard as his drink, watching the bubbles swirl around at the bottom, before steadily rising to the surface and siappearing with a pop.
"It's just that... I should've told you sooner, I just... couldn't. I wanted to." That was true. James hated keeping things from his friends, but at the time, he couldn't even stomach the news himself. "My dad died." he said finally, lifting his eyes to Remus's. "Moony, my dad got killed and the last thing I did was yell at him."
He wasn't looking for sympathy or pity, really, he simply wanted his friends to know, and maybe that would help explain if he acted off in the coming month or so.

Remus shrugged, "Guess so." That would probably explain it, he just didn't like Ripley like that. Well he breathed a mental sigh of relief, well now that he got that over with, there were just more things on his mind, well more people on his mind. But he needed to think about that himself before he discussed it with anybody.
There was a pause and Remus then knew that it was something serious. James may have been a joker but he didn't joke about serious situations or subjects. "Oh jeeze." He said turning fully to James now. "I'm sorry James, you alright though?" His eyes looking sympathetic toward his friend now. His dad died? That was horrible, and James had yelled at him? No wonder it was probably tearing him up inside.
"Anything I can do? Have you told Sirius yet?" So many questions lingered in his mind, but he would get answers when his friend was ready. Besides friends were needed for support, right? Just moral support and just to be there.

"Oh jeeze." He said turning fully to James now. "I'm sorry James, you alright though?"
James instantly downed his Firewhiskey, hoping the harsh alcohol would numb his aching heart a bit. Before he answered Remus, however, he raised his hand up a bit and ordered another, in a bigger glass. He needed more, it was going to be a while before he stopped hurting. Finishing the last of what he had right then, he sighed and pushed through his hair a bit, before turning to Remus.
"Yeah, I think I'm okay." he answered with a light frown. "Hurts like hell, but it's getting a bit better now that the shock's worn off." This was true; at first it had hurt so bad he'd actually cried, and that was more embarassing than anything; especially if it was in front of Lily. Still, like he'd told her, he didn't regret anything that had happened that night. He still hadn't told any of the Marauders yet; he wanted to sort everything out for sure before he did.
"Anything I can do? Have you told Sirius yet?"
James' light frowned returned a bit and he shook his head, watching the barkeep expectantly, waiting for his next drink. "Yes and no." he replied after grabbing up his newly-received drink and gulping some of it. Turning back to his friend, he gave somewhat of a dry smile. "Yes, you can help by being my friend. And no, I haven't told Sirius yet." He'd wanted to tell Sirius and Remust he second it happened, but... he just couldn't.
